Principles of Powerful Presentations

  1. People are overwhelmed with information.
  2. People have short attention and retention spans.
  3. Skillful presenting is not the same as public speaking. Both the approach and the response are different.
    - Presenting is audience-oriented
    - Public speaking is speaker-oriented
  4. The purpose of every presentation is to persuade.
  5. It is more important for the audience to understand the message. It is not an opportunity for the presenter to impress.
  6. Every presentation must satisfy four criteria:
    - attention getting
    - meaningful
    - memorable
    - activating
